Alloy Steel F1 rods have ~0.18–0.25% C, 0.8–1.2% Mn with minor additions of Cr, Si, or Mo based on application. Machined and normalized, they attain tensile strengths of 500–700 MPa, yield strengths of 300–500 MPa, and elongation of 12–18%. They can withstand case hardening (to ~60 HRC) and possess core toughness. With homogeneous microstructure and uniform chemistry, they resist fatigue and stress under machining and service conditions. Surface finishes are turned, drawn, or ground. Their behavior is optimized by way of thermal treatment to meet structural and wear-critical parts.
