Aluminium 5005 is a non-heat-treatable alloy that consists of about 0.8% magnesium, 0.3% silicon, along with small amounts of iron, copper, and chromium, with aluminum making up the rest (~97.5%). It boasts remarkable corrosion resistance, particularly in marine and industrial settings, and offers good weldability. The alloy features a tensile strength ranging from 170 to 215 MPa, a yield strength of 110 to 150 MPa, and an elongation of 12 to 20%, depending on the temper (like H14 or O). It’s especially well-suited for decorative and anodized finishes, maintaining its color beautifully after processing, and is reliable for lightweight structural and sheet metal applications.

Aluminum 5005 offers excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability, formability, and moderate strength, making it ideal for custom forgings in architectural and marine applications, while providing a smooth, aesthetic finish.
Aluminum 5005 is not ideal for high-temperature forging applications. It has moderate strength and good corrosion resistance but lacks the high-temperature stability needed for forging processes.
Aluminum 5005 has good workability, allowing for easy forging. Its moderate strength and excellent corrosion resistance make it suitable for shaping, but it requires careful control of temperature to avoid cracking.
Aluminium 5005 Forgings find extensive use in architectural and decorative projects due to their excellent anodizing properties and smooth finish, making them perfect for curtain walls, cladding, and signage. In the electrical sector, they are utilized in bus bars, conductors, and panel enclosures because of their good electrical conductivity. The transportation industry employs 5005 forgings for panels, trims, and lightweight structural components, while manufacturers of household and kitchen equipment appreciate them for their non-reactive, formable qualities. Additionally, they are also used in marine environments.
