Aluminium 5052 is a non-heat-treatable alloy primarily made up of 2.2–2.8% magnesium and 0.15–0.35% chromium, with aluminum making up the rest. It provides excellent corrosion resistance—particularly in marine settings—and outstanding formability and weldability. Typical mechanical properties include a tensile strength ranging from 210–260 MPa, yield strength between 130–190 MPa, and elongation of 12–25%, depending on the temper (like H32 or O). While it may not be as strong as the heat-treatable alloys in the 5000 series, 5052 shines in applications that require a blend of moderate strength, corrosion resistance, and a smooth surface finish for forming or machining.

Aluminum 5052 is not ideal for high-temperature forging applications due to its relatively low melting point and poor high-temperature strength. Alloys like 7075 or 2011 are better suited for such applications.
Aluminum 5052 has excellent workability, making it suitable for forging. Its low-to-medium strength, good corrosion resistance, and formability allow for ease in shaping, reducing the risk of cracking during forging.
