Dhruv Metals offers Kovar Bars and Rods, a unique iron-nickel-cobalt alloy designed for controlled expansion and thermal stability. Kovar is specifically used in applications requiring metal-to-glass seals, such as electronics and vacuum systems. With precise dimensional tolerances and polished finishes, our Kovar products meet ASTM F15 standards. Dhruv Metals supplies high-quality Kovar bars for advanced electronic, aerospace, and instrumentation applications where tight thermal expansion control is crucial.
Kovar typically consists of 29% nickel, 17% cobalt, 0.3% manganese, and the balance is iron. The coefficient of thermal expansion is approximately 5.5 µm/m·°C (20 to 400°C). The tensile strength ranges from 520 to 620 MPa; yield strength is around 415 MPa; and elongation is about 20%. Kovar shows excellent stability under thermal cycling and minimal distortion. It is magnetic and can be easily brazed or welded. Its expansion characteristics closely match borosilicate glass, allowing for strong seals.

Kovar rods, primarily composed of iron, cobalt, and nickel, are resistant to galvanic corrosion due to their similar electrochemical properties with most alloys, reducing the risk when paired with compatible materials.
Yes, Kovar bar can be welded, but it requires special techniques and precautions due to its unique composition and thermal expansion properties. Proper heat control and filler metals are essential.
Kovar rods typically come in diameters ranging from 1/8" to 4" and lengths of up to 12 feet. Finishes include mill, polished, and brushed surfaces for various applications.

We provide products that come with both mill test certificates and third-party test certificates, ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance.
