Iron is the base element in stainless steel 15-5 PH bars and rods, which are composed of chromium (14–15.5%), nickel (3.5–5.5%), copper (2.5–4.5%), and carbon (≤0.07%). This alloy has a moderate resistance to corrosion and exceptional mechanical strength. Depending on the heat treatment condition (H900 to H1150), it provides tensile strength of 930–1310 MPa, yield strength of 860–1170 MPa, and elongation between 10–20% after precipitation hardening. Additionally, it has good dimensional stability, hardness, and toughness. Superior performance in corrosive and high-stress service environments is made possible by the low carbon content and martensitic structure.
