The main constituents of stainless steel 420 flat bar are iron, carbon (0.15–0.40%), and chromium (12–14%), with trace amounts of silicon, sulphur, and manganese. Excellent hardenability and moderate corrosion resistance are features of this martensitic stainless steel. Mechanically, it provides elongation of roughly 15%, yield strength of about 500 MPa, and tensile strength between 700 and 850 MPa.
