Chromium (16–18%), iron as the base element, and trace amounts of manganese, silicon, and carbon (≤0.12%) make up the majority of stainless steel 430 flat bars. Although heat treatment cannot harden this ferritic grade, it offers good resistance to oxidation and corrosion. SS 430 has an elongation of up to 22%, a yield strength of 200–250 MPa, and a tensile strength of roughly 450–600 MPa. In mild conditions, it exhibits outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking, good ductility, and moderate toughness. The flat bars can be readily machined and are appropriate for mild welding and cold working.
